EXPFLEX single-solenoid (monostable) electrically controlled valves are directional control valves operated by a single electromagnetic coil and a mechanical return spring, designed to return to their initial position automatically when power is disconnected. They are highly preferred in automation systems due to their safety and cost-effectiveness.
Working Principle
  • Power On (Active Position): When electrical voltage (such as 24V or 220V) is applied to the coil, it generates a magnetic field. This field pulls the internal spool to change the airflow direction. For instance, in a 5/2-way valve, air is directed to the port that extends the pneumatic cylinder.
  • Power Off (Safe Position): The moment electricity is cut off, the magnetic field disappears. An internal mechanical spring immediately pushes the spool back to its original state. The airflow reverses, and the cylinder retracts to its starting point.
Key Advantages
  • Safety (Fail-Safe): In the event of a power outage or an emergency stop (E-Stop), the valve automatically returns to its safe position via spring force. This prevents uncontrolled movements in the machinery.
  • Lower Cost and Simple Wiring: They offer a lower purchase price compared to double-solenoid models and require only a single output cable from the control panel (PLC).
  • Compact Design: Having a coil on only one side allows them to occupy less space inside panels and on manifold blocks.
Common Model Examples
  • EXPFLEX 4V210-08 (5/2 Single Solenoid): The most widely used standard model in the industry for controlling double-acting pneumatic cylinders, featuring a 1/4" thread size.
  • EXPFLEX 3V210-08 (3/2 Single Solenoid): Used for controlling single-acting (spring-return) cylinders or for turning the main air line on and off.
